The Placement Design of New Street Furniture Based on Behavior-environment Studies: the Case of Turin
The design of street furniture has come into a new stage with the evolution of city daily life and fast development of global urbanization.
People-oriented has become the main theme in the current tendency in every conceivable area of life including both design and plan of the new-generation street furniture. The placement of street furniture plays an important role in the usage of urban facility is usually ignored in the design procedure only as an element for landscape.
According to the function of new street furniture not limited in service for citizens has extended to inspire resident to take part in the city public life, it is necessary to research on the placement design for promotion of usage of street furniture.
This study includes reviews of and investigations into city street furniture and urban people behavior pattern in Turin. Through building the relationship structure about city public space and people behavior pattern from city layer, district layer and place layer, a rudimentary series of principles of street furniture plan framework was first drafted.
As cases, the design in different places and collaborative streetscape and street furniture in Turin, in which the design principles were implemented, evaluated, and consolidated and based on this some new principles and details were suggested.
