2019 European Researchers' Night
The European Researchers' Night is back in Turin. The 2019 edition - organized by the University of Turin and Research Institutions, with the participation of the Politecnico di Torino – will take place on September 27th from 18.30 to 24.00 in several places in the city with activities, workshops and experiments to give voice to the scientific research.
The researchers will be the protagonists of the event with over 50 stations and hundreds of activities spread throughout the city and designed to create a unique opportunity to move citizens closer to scientific culture in an informal and entertaining way. Not only science, but also research in the humanities. The night will also be an opportunity to discuss sustainability, disability and gender discrimination.
In this edition, Politecnico di Torino will participate with young researchers involved in Marie Sklodowska-Curie Innovative Training Networks, supported by the European Commission to train a new generation of creative, entrepreneurial and innovative early-stage researchers:
- The team of FRANCESCA VIPIANA from the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications will present EMERALD -Electromagnetic imaging for a novel generation of medical devices. Bringing electromagnetic imaging research to patient’s bedside. An innovative and non-invasive system to monitor stroke;
- The team of MILENA SALVO from the Department of Applied Science and Technology will present CoACH: Advanced glasses, composites and ceramics for high growth industries. New materials which are at the basis of innovation for well-being and sustainable growth in many sectors such as aerospace, transport, medicine and health, energy, photonics, waste reuse and ICT;
- The team of LUCA BRUNO from the Department of Architecture and Design and LUIGI PREZIOSI from the Department of Mathematical Sciences will present SMaRT - Sand Mitigation around Railway Tracks developing efficient tools of simulation and analysis for effective and innovative sand mitigation measures;
- The team of STEFANO ZUCCA from the Department of Mechanical and Aerospace Engineering will present EXPERTISE - Models, experiments and high performance computing for turbine mechanical integrity and structural dynamics in Europe with experiments in vibration mechanics: vibrating bartacks, vibrating plate with sand to highlight the modes of vibration, two-degree freedom system with tennis balls and elastic bands.
Furthermore Daniele Trinchero of the Department of Electronics and Telecommunications and its team of the iXem laboratories will present he iXemWine platform for sharing meteorological data in viticulture, hosted by the Municipality of Turin.
Participation in the activities is free and open to all. Some activities have limited places and require reservations.
The European Researchers' Night is organized by Università degli Studi di Torino, Sistema Scienza Piemonte, INFIN, INRIM, IMAS, IPSP, Museo Egizio, Museo Nazionale del Risorgimento, with the participation of Politecnico di Torino the patronage of Città Metropolitana and Città di Torino, in collaboration with Compagnia di San Paolo.
