Service transformation in manufacturing companies & Service Matching
With Federico Barravecchia - PhD student at Politecnico di Torino - Department of Management and Production Engineering, in the Quality Engineering Group.
The latest edition of the World Development Report shows that the 74 percent of euro area and the 70 percent of the world gross domestic product is due to services.
Despite this evidence, companies, governments and scholars still pay little attention to service research, innovation or quality if compared to the focus on tangible goods and technologies.
The process that involves companies developing the capabilities to provide services and solutions that supplement their traditional product offerings is commonly called servitization.
With regards to manufacturing, the servitization process has been found to provide many advantages, such as: increasing the value of the offering, improving sustainability, enhancing product customization, developing customers’ loyalty, generating profits throughout the whole product life cycle, etc.
After an introduction to the service transformation process in manufacturing companies, this research seminar aims at presenting the Service Relationship Deployment (SRD), a tool to support service designers when dealing with the service matching problem, i.e. the process of combining a new service with one or more existing services.
