Geotechnical Lectures

Albenga Room Entrance 1, Second floor DISEG, Corso Duca degli Abruzzi, 24 - Torino

Seminar with Prof. Stokoe, Dr. Goudarzy and Dr. Baille will present the following research seminars on Geotechnical Engineering topics.

10.00 a.m. Prof. Kenneth H. Stokoe - Department of Civil Engineering, University of Texas at Austin
Field Measurements of the Variability in ru – log g and G – log g Relationships in Christchurch, NZ and Port of Longview, WA Soils Based on Shaking Trials with T-Rex.”
Prof. Stokoe is acknowledged worldwide as an outstanding expert in the areas of in situ seismic measurements, laboratory measurements of dynamic material properties and dynamic soil-structure interaction.

3.00 p.m. Dr. Wiebke Baille - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bochum University
Liquefaction Potential of Sands Containing Fines – From CSSM to Engineering Applications
Dr Baille obtained her PhD from in 2014, presenting a thesis on “hydro-mechanical behavior of clays – significance of mineralogy”. Her many research interests include the liquefaction potential of soils containing fines.

4.30 p.m. Dr. Meisam Goudarzy - Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering, Bochum University
The Application of Equivalent State Parameter to Predict Shear Wave Velocity in Sands Containing Fines
Dr. Goudarzy obtained his PhD in 2015, presenting a thesis on “micro and macro mechanical assessment of small and intermediate strain properties of granular material”. He is currently working with Prof. Tom Schanz on the influence of the fines content on shear wave velocity relationships for sands.
