The International Summer School Cultural Heritage in Context. Digital for the Humanities. Digital Nubia is organized by the University Politecnico di Torino POLITO and University of California, Los Angeles UCLA. It focuses on Digital Humanities Methodologies for Cultural Heritage whit the aim of re-creating LOST CONTEXTS.

The program will involve students on an intensive interdisciplinary program on the UNESCO NUBIAN CAMPAIGN of 1960s, approaching problems of cultural landscape face to risks, environmental changes, sustainability, documentation and preservation of tangible and intangible values. Students will have the opportunity to work on a case study with POLITO and UCLA international experts of specialized fields (visual egyptology, digital history, 3D, GIS, BIM) with the purpose to recreate the Lost Context of Nubian Temples.

Cultural and topographical contexts are enormously important for a meaningful understanding of the Cultural Heritage. The program will develop themes and methodologies for identifying links and sources as well as for shaping a virtual environment useful to link monuments to their contexts.
In this scenario, we will exam issues related to the Nubian archaeological heritage that, during the UNESCO campaign of 1960s went through several important changes.

The one-week full immersion program will combine lessons and practice in order to deep studies on cultural landscapes and skills on digital heritage. Students will be asked and assisted to use GIS, 3D, VR for creating digital archives, digital libraries, datasets and virtual museums in order to link temples with their lost contexts for an historical and archeological data representation.

Deadline: June 30th, 2017
